Fall is here, temperatures are dipping, and it’s time to take a look at your clothes and decide what’s going to stay and what’s going to be retired. Okay, so maybe you don’t do this. In fact, many guys just keep wearing the same clothes year after year. So here’s the problem. That sweater from five years ago might have looked nice and dapper when you first bought it but now it smells like mothballs and there’s a rip in one of the armpits that you haven’t noticed yet…but other people have.
So while you might not be jumping up and down about it, now is a better time than any to go through your closet and get rid of clothes you’re not going to wear, and replace those with clothes that you will wear. Sounds simple? It rarely is but the team here at Fashion Metric has some great tips for you to get your wardrobe back in shape for the fall. Oh and don’t worry, you don’t have to spend a fortune but you do need to buy a few key items that will help you look damn good while braving the elements.
1. Get a nice leather jacket
There’s a good chance that the leather jacket you have hanging in your closet looks like it was a hand-me-down from your Dad. Distressed is a good look, homeless is not. Most likely you’re due for a new leather jacket and once you get one you’ll notice your outfit options growing dramatically. You can pair a leather jacket with jeans, slacks, you name it, just make sure it looks good otherwise that tattered jacket could ruin what was almost a great outfit. Want to dig deeper? 2. Buy dark button-downs with some character
Sure, you probably already own a black button-down shirt. Now we’re not saying you should get rid of one of your staples, but don’t be afraid to add a little character to your shirt. A great example is this shirt above from Fly Apparel made right here in Southern California. Buttoned-up you have a shirt you can wear to the office with a tie, but at night, roll-back your cuffs and pop your collar to reveal a whole new you. Like the shirt above? Check it out here.
3. Add a stylish scarf as a finishing touch
While you have scarves, be honest, aren’t most of them plain and boring? Most guys just buy a basic, cheap scarf, have only one, and when it’s really cold that’s what they wear. You might not know it but a good scarf can go a long way towards completing an outfit. Want to learn more? The Art Of Manliness did a great feature called A Man’s Guide to the Scarf.
