In case you didn’t get the memo, Bow Ties are back. No longer relegated only to the well-suited man, a bow tie can compliment outfits from casual to formal and you can look downright stylish. When it comes to wearing a bow tie there are three things you should be thinking about:
- What kind of bow tie is it – there are three kinds of bow ties, self-tie, clip-on, and pre-tied. The only thing you need to know is that you should avoid pre-tied bow ties, the best bow ties need to be tied by you, just like a good tie.
- Pattern – don’t be afraid to be bold, a simple tie with no pattern can look overly formal, spruce it up with a pattern and cool fabric unless you’re wearing a tux and then you can keep it simple because, heck, you’re wearing a tux!
- Color – even thought this is #3 on this list it is probably the most important factor to consider. Your tie should match your outfit so when you’re picking colors make sure it matches the shirt you plan to wear it with.
Of course, when it comes to ties, quality matters and a nice silk tie looks and feels great.
